An American 4-year-old Maine Coon cat, Stewie, from Reno, Nevada, has broken the world record as the longest domestic cat, measuring over 4 feet from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail, Reno Gazette-Journal (RGJ) newspaper said on Wednesday.
Stewie's owner, Robin Hendrickson, told the newspaper that she decided to apply for the Guinness Book of World's Records since all of her friends were in awe about the incredibly long cat.
"I couldn't tell you how many times I have heard that he is the longest cat a person has ever seen," RGJ quoted Stewie's owner as saying.
Commenting on Stewie's future career, Hendrickson said that she would be happy if "Stewie was known worldwide" with his face pictured on a bag of cat food or providing cat show promotions.
"We have a total of five Maine Coon cats. Some of the cats like each other, some could care less. Stewie gets along with everybody, as he is a very laid back kinda guy. Everybody likes him too," RGJ cited Hendrickson as saying.
Maine Coons, also known as American ring-tailed raccoon cats, are one of the largest breeds of domestic cats. Along with the large body and long, flowing coat, they have strong big claws capable of driving them into walls.
